Indigo Airlines loaders
call off strike

All 107 loaders of Indigo Airlines withdrew their strike on Tuesday after the management offered them a salary of Rs 11,000 each, following an intervention by Power Minister Milind Naik to break the deadlock between the airlines and the agitating loaders.
Loading and unloading of luggage on Indigo flights at the airport came to a grinding halt on Monday, after over 100 loaders went on a flash strike demanding increased wages.
The loaders met Naik on Tuesday and highlighted their grievances.
The loaders claimed that the company had been paying them salary of Rs 8,000 without any increment since the last six years, despite handling an average of 200 bags on each of the 16-odd flights each day.
They had initially demanded an increased salary of Rs 13,000 for 26 working days, but the company was willing to offer them a salary of Rs 10,000. The striking workers then settled for a final salary of Rs 12,000, but the airline officials were not prepared to accept their demand.
After listening to their grievances, Naik informed the loaders that it was wrong on their part to go on a flash strike, as it had caused considerable hardship to the passengers.
Naik then informed the loaders to settle for a salary of Rs 11,500 and they accepted his suggestion.
Later speaking to The Goan, Naik said: “I advised the loaders to settle for a salary of Rs 11,500 and when they agreed to this suggestion, I contacted the airline management and passed on the message.”
“The airline officials were, however, reluctant to pay a salary of Rs 11,500 and they agreed to Rs 11,000. The loaders agreed to this offer and resumed their duty,” said Naik.
