Cong hits back at BJP, says ‘false narrative’ on Ujjwala

MARGAO
The Congress Party has slammed the BJP government for setting a false narrative that the Congress Party is against the granting of the Ujjwala Yojana scheme to beneficiaries.
Congress spokesperson Savio Coutinho stated that the Congress Party had never made any such statement, but, on the contrary, demanded that all LPG connection holders should be given the benefits that were assured by the BJP in its 2022 Assembly election manifesto.
He said the Congress had further demanded that the government make an official announcement that the scheme would be permanent, and not only for this year, considering the ensuing Assembly elections. "The applicants are not going through these hardships for merely a Rs 3,000 one-time grant, but anticipate that the same shall follow every year in future," Mr Coutinho said.
He said the intention behind including the declaration in the application form was surely a serious doubt in the mind of every Goan, adding that a clarification had come out that the Griha Adhar and DSS schemes would not be affected upon availing of the Ujjwala scheme after facing flak from the beneficiaries.
“The BJP government needs to clarify the very purpose for which the declaration, with a warning of penal action, was part of the application form. The public had to unnecessarily suffer by standing in long queues for hours together on multiple occasions, ie. to collect the form, to get the Civil Supplies stamp on the form, to get the MLA's signature on the form and finally to submit the forms.
“We strongly demand that the process be simplified so that the applicants can easily download the application form from the official website and submit the same directly at the designated locations,” he demanded.
