The delegation of Goa Congress leaders may have visited the national capital, met Rahul Gandhi and even posed for a photograph together, but all does not seem well as the leaders arrived separately in different flights and offered mixed views upon their return to the State on Friday.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo told reporters that the Congress party would suffer if the present GPCC president was not changed.
“We were called by Rahul Gandhi and though I am loyal to the party, I went separately and put forth my views. We are hoping some changes will happen in the structure of the party.”
“If this does not happen, the party will suffer. I have also informed about the financial misappropriation happening presently and we are hopeful of a change,” said Reginaldo.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar said all leaders placed their demands and issues with Rahul Gandhi and that the party was directed to promote new faces in the party, while also being advised to come on the ground to fight for the people.
“The major issue was how we will win the upcoming election using the public sentiment against the BJP. Last elections, we could have announced our leader within 5 minutes had we obtained full majority.”
“As of now, we have not been informed of an alliance and only advised to work in all constituencies and the decision will be taken by central leadership at the right time.”
“We have already gone into candidate selection mode and are also participating in public issues while also strengthening our party by activating all our units.”
“There is always a difference of opinion but the main challenge is how to unite despite this situation to dislodge the communal and anti-people government. Unity is the need of the hour and people want this to happen and no one can then defeat the Congress,” said Chodankar.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said he was offered the GPCC president’s post, but he had not accepted it. “Rahul Gandhi has taken stock of the situation in Goa and I have said that I am okay with anyone that the party decides as the president of the party in Goa. Earlier too I declined the offer. There has been no discussion on an alliance as of now. Necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the party wins,” said Faleiro.
