MARGAO
President of Margao Municipal New market Association Vinod Shirodkar has said the Municipality should initiate action in a uniform manner during the lockdown, and not unnecessarily target the traders in the New market.
“We had seen during the previous lockdown that while the new market was told to shut down operations, business continue as usual outside the new market, with unscrupulous traders from outside the state selling goods from vehicles. This should stop if the government and the MMC want to achieve something during the lockdown”, Vinod said.
He pointed out that the Margao New market traders had suffered a lot, both financially and otherwise, during the last year’s lockdown, even as he lamented that neither the government nor the Margao Municipality came to their rescue to bail them out of the financial loss.
“We are aware of the rise in COVID cases in the city and are willing to cooperate with the authorities, but the Municipality and the government should ensure that any decision taken should be implemented in a uniform manner”, he added.
