Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said a ‘Chief Minister Fisherman Insurance Scheme’ and eco-friendly movable fish kiosks have been proposed for fishermen in the State.
In his budget speech, Sawant said a financial provision of Rs 84.03 crore has been made for the Fisheries Department.
“I propose to implement ‘Chief Minister Fisherman Insurance Scheme’ which will provide insurance cover to active fishermen who suffer accidents at sea due to severe weather and other natural calamities,” stated Sawant.
The chief minister also proposed a ‘Matsya Vahini’ eco-friendly movable fish kiosk for fishermen at an estimated cost of Rs 4.25 crore.
Sawant further stated that the construction of the State of Art Wholesale Fish Market
in Margao is to be completed this year at a cost of Rs 41.25 crore.
He added that Rs 42.12 crore has been provided for carrying capital expenditure for upgradation of fisheries infrastructure at various locations across the State.
