Veterinary Science College to be set up

The government has proposed to establish a College of Veterinary Science in the State to provide opportunities to the aspiring students, who otherwise have to travel outside the State to pursue their education.

CM Pramod Sawant announced that the government proposes to avail the services of newly graduated BVSc, who have signed an agreement with the government, as per which they are obliged to serve the State for one year after completing their education.

The students will be provided Rs 30,000 per month stipend.

The government propose to convert the existing Disease Investigation Unit into State Laboratory for Disease Surveillance and establish District Laboratories at Veterinary Hospital, Mapusa, Sonsodo, Margao and Mini-Labs at Veterinary Hospital, Honda and Ponda.

It also proposes to set up an operation theatre and rehabilitation center for large animals at its Government Cattle Breeding Farm at Koparde in Sattari.

The State is considering introducing Muzzle Identification GODHAAR identity card for animals, wherein the facial pattern would be linked like that of Aaadhar. The typical facial pattern can be captured by mobile phones. The technique is completely non-invasive and will prevent the pain and suffering that the animal would normally experience during ear tagging and microchipping.
