The Goa government claims to have collected over Rs 8.7 crore from various tourism-related registration activities, an amount which is almost three times more than the amount collected by the Tourism Department five years ago.
According to the Economic Survey Report tabled by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday, the total revenue collected from registration activities for the year 2023-24 up to January 15, 2024, is over Rs 8.7 crore and another Rs 4.5 crore from renewal activities.
In 2019-20, the registration activities fetched the government over Rs 3.4 crore, which rose to over Rs 4.6 crore in 2020-21, and Rs 5.1 crore in 2021-22. The figures drastically dropped to Rs 2.2 crore in the last fiscal year 2022-23 only to see a hike this ongoing financial year.
Maximum fees are collected from the shacks on the government land as over Rs 7 crore is collected this financial year. The amount was over Rs 2.7 crore in 2019-20, over Rs 3.7 crore and Rs 4.4 crore in the subsequent two FY. The registration fee collection for the 2022-23 FY shows zero. The report states that in 2023-24 (up to January 15, 2024), 89.30 per cent of revenue was earned through government shacks and hotels. In another section on the revenue collected from leasing of the department’s property, the amount is said to be Rs 1.1 crore for the year 2023-24 (up to December 2023).
During the same period, 86.27 per cent of revenue was earned towards the leasing of the Tourism Department’s property through Calangute Pay Parking (Rs 47.67 lakh) and Panaji Parking Services (Rs 48.75 lakh).
In all, the report states that revenue generated through registration, renewal, and lease for the year 2023-24 (up to December 2023) increased by around 281 percent as compared to the year 2018-19.
