Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday told the Goa legislative assembly that the ‘laterite eco resort’ approved by the Investment Promotion Board at Ella Goa allegedly within 100 meters of the archaeological site at Ella, Old Goa, is on hold and will be scrutinised in detail before a final decision. “We know what happened when a bungalow was allowed to be constructed there. People came to the streets and there was an agitation. We do not want the same trouble and people getting agitated. The project is on hold. It will be scrutinized again in detail and appropriate decision will be taken,” Godinho said.
Quepem MLA, Altone D’Costa, meanwhile demanded that the minister assure the House that it will be scrapped. “The project is within 100 meters. In your scrutiny when you go with a measuring tape, the distance will not become 120 meters. Give an assurance that you will scrap the approval to the project,” D’Costa said.
