The head accountant of a resort in Candolim was booked on charges of cheating the resort to the tune of Rs 1.27 crore.
Calangute police have registered an offence against Shabaji Sawant of Arvale-Sankhali in connection with the offense which occurred between December 28, 2012 and August 11, 2023.
Sawant was working in the resort at chief accountant, and the responsibility of maintaining the bank account of the resort was with him. The company had suspected mismanagement of funds from the bank account of the resort.
Accordingly, the company audited all its bank accounts and found that Rs 1,27,61,153 were missing.
Acting on a police complaint by the resort manager, Calangute police registered an offence against the suspect under Sections 408 and 418 IPC, and is investigating the case.
