Dharbandora has become the first taluka to take up the government’s ambitious Home Stay tourism project.
The Economic Survey report tabled by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant states that Home-stays have started in Talde village of Dharbandora by seven self-help groups (SHGs) involving more than 100 households in the village and also in the neighboring villages.
“To enhance the livelihood opportunities, up-skill and create self-employment opportunities for SHGs, the government is promoting Homestay tourism in association with the Mineral Foundation of Goa in the hinterland areas of the State. Home-stays have been started in Talde village of Dharbandora by 7 SHGs involving more than 100 households in the village and also in the neighboring villages,” reads the survey report.
The Tourism Department has often claimed that the policy goes in line with the new vision of ‘Goa beyond beaches’ that will let tourists travel away from the coastal area into the hinterland and make them experience the authentic traditions and culture of Goa.
Under the project “Linking Rural and Eco-Tourism Potential to SHG Livelihood in Tambi Surla Cluster”, the Government in association with the Mineral Foundation of Goa has onboarded seven SHGs having 98 members. The report states that the Mineral Foundation of Goa provides assistance in developing concepts, client-based governance structure, and guidelines for the project.
