Inter religious meet at Old Goa
OLD GOA: The inter religious meet at Old Goa on Thursday analysed that wrong models of development have resulted in destruction of nature and have driven the poor to misery.
The theme for the meet was 'Together we protect nature and defend the poor.'
Altaf Shah quoting Arundathi Roy voiced that India is not heading to be a super power but super poor. He exhorted to analyze and think about the models of development. “Religion talks to us of how we can bring about the change,” he asserted.
Amancio Fernandes expressed that it is the faulty policies and mismanagement of those in governance which has resulted in nature revolting. He suggested some measures that can be taken in developing a plan in village/town for sustainability, bio-diversity.
Chandrashekar Gawas lamented that in the name of development trees are cut.
Sr Maria Christie, Principal of Carmel Higher Secondary, said the call to protect nature and defend the poor arises from the very core belief of our religions. “It is not an optional response but an obligation.”
