Internal inquiry seeks disciplinary action against PSI for bigamy

PANAJI

Police Sub-Inspector Narayan Pinge alias Rushal, currently attached to Agassaim police station, has been indicted of bigamy, fraud, cheating, possessing disproportionate assets and violation of conduct rules according to a departmental inquiry conducted by Superintendent of Police Sucheta Dessai.

The inquiry against PSI Pinge was initiated on a complaint filed by a Vasco woman alleging she was duped and cheated by the officer.

According to the complainant, while posted at the Police Control Room in Panaji in September 2020, PSI Pinge on two occasions took her to high-end city hotels for overnight stays. The allegation was ascertained by the inquiry officer after verifying the hotel records.

The 13-page inquiry report backed by various relevant documents and electronic evidence collected during the inquiry, has recommended disciplinary action.

“Considering the nature of the officer that the officer is placed in, and the reputation of integrity that is required for the discharge of the duties annexed to that office, if the act of the government servant brings down the reputation of not only himself, but also the office which he occupies, the employer, the government, can definitely set the rule in motion for disciplinary action,” it said.

It is also learnt through the inquiry that an already married PSI on January 6, 2021, married the victim at a ceremony in Sancoale. The Temple priest who had performed the marriage ceremony, confirmed this in a statement to the inquiry officer.
