Calangute Police arrested five persons on charges of betting in connection with the ongoing IPL 2020 cricket tournament in the UAE.
Police seized cash amount of Rs 25,440, 15 mobile phones and three laptops all worth Rs 2.50 lakh during the raid.
The arrests were made following a raid at a club in Baga.
Those arrested during a late-night raid on Saturday were found betting on the cricket match between CSK and Royal Challengers, Bengalaru, police said.
The five accused Manoj Thadani (39), Bunty Dangi (32), Chintu Dhoidhoy (28) all from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Rupesh Singh (41) from Mumbai and Jagdish Nepali (47) from Nepal were booked and arrested for contravening Section 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act.
This is the third IPL betting case registered at Calangute Police Station within a month.
The police team that conducted the raid was led by PI Nolasco Raposo along with PSI Rajaram Bhagkar, Head Constable Vinod Naik and Police Constable Vinay Shrivastav.
PSI Vikas Deykar is investigating further.
One held for selling electronic cigarette: In another case, Calangute Police booked one Sinnudden Beary (25), a native of Karnataka and presently residing at Umtawaddo, Calangute for selling electronic cigarettes and its allied products worth Rs 15,000 at Vape Store near Baga Circle, Calangute.
The accused was later released on bail.
