A late-night raid by Verna police exposed an illegal betting operation on an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at a rented premises in Sancoale, leading to the arrest of four persons who were allegedly accepting bets during a live game.
According to police, the raid was conducted between 22:39 hours on April 11 and 03:33 hours on April 12 at the first floor of House No. 64/3D, Shindolim, Sancoale. Acting on specific inputs, the team caught the accused red-handed while facilitating betting on a match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.
The accused have been identified as Pranjal Tiwari (23), a native of Govindnagar, Manikpur, Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh; Amar Dawda (33), a resident of Mungeli, Chhattisgarh; Shashank Kumar Sahu (19), a native of Subhash Nagar, Sarainya, Manikpur, Uttar Pradesh; and Sandeep Singh (23), a resident of Karajara, Awtichanduali, Dhina police station, Uttar Pradesh. All four were staying at the rented premises near Bhoj Naik House, Shindolim, Sancoale.
Police seized 10 mobile phones, two laptops, one tablet device, an internet router with a signal receiver, and cash amounting to Rs 37,000. The total value of the seized items is estimated at around Rs 2.5 lakh.
An offence under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act has been registered at Verna Police Station.
