VALPOI
Another area in Sattari taluka has been hit by water shortage and this time, it was the turn of locals from Karmali Budruk in Majikwada-Savordem to protest at the PWD office in Valpoi and demand regular water supply in the village.
The locals later marched to the electricity office in Valpoi to complain about the street lights which are out of order in the village.
A local, Pratima Paryekar, told media persons that residents in Majikwada have been suffering from water shortage since the last two months.
“Authorities have not taken this matter seriously. The local panch is also aware of this issue. In the absence of tap water supply, people are forced to travel almost 2 km to the nearest water body. However, this is located in an isolated area and people fear of being attacked by wild animals,” said Paryekar.
The locals brought along with them taps and confronted the PWD officers while threatening to stage a dharna outside the PWD office if the water supply problem is not resolved within 15 days.
When contacted, PWD Assistant Engineer Soma Naik said water tankers will be sent to the affected areas, while a permanent solution is being worked out.
Later, the aggrieved residents went to the electricity department office at Valpoi to complain about malfunctioning street lights in the village.
They claimed that since their village lies in a forested area, it is risky and unsafe to move on the road without street lights.
The electricity department assistant engineer told them that a proposal to sanction street lights has already been forwarded to authorities.
