“We need funds to solve these two main problems presently affecting Canconcars and I think you can help us by extending funds under MPLAD to resolve these nagging issues,” Fernandes requested Savoikar, while speaking as guest of honour at the inauguration of the railway Passenger Reservation System at the Canacona
post office.
Fernandes then turned his attention to the plight of the postal staff at Canacona, claiming that they were already overburdened with their daily work and demanded additional staff to operate the railway PRS counter at Canacona post office.
He pointed out that additional responsibilities of PRS entrusted to the overburdened staff at the Canacona post office would further affect them.
“This was also brought to the notice of senior postal authorities on various occasions. To run the post office and the PRS smoothly, additional manpower is a must for the Canaocna post office,” he said.
The Canacona MLA also demanded railway overbridges for pedestrians at both railway stations in Canacona taluka, adding that approach roads to both railway stations at Canacona and Loliem needed asphalting, as they had developed potholes.
Fernandes requested Savoikar to use his influence with Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu to provide better facilities for rail users in Canacona.
