The presence of migrants in the village dominated the gram sabha of the Dramapur-Sirlim village panchayat on Sunday.
Members also condemned the attitude of the State Election Commission by referring the gram sabha resolution demanding linking of the Aadhar card with the EPIC cards to the Director of Panchayats to bar migrants from casting votes at two places.
At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Sanjana Chari, members expressed concern over the huge presence of migrants in the village, with members demanding to know whether the land lords, who have leased out their premises to the tenants, have been brought under the purview of the tenant verification exercise.
Some of the members demanded to know why the panchayat has not initiated action against people who have built illegal rooms and rented out the same to migrants. They claimed that some unscrupulous house owners have built illegal rooms behind their houses in gross violation of the construction rules.
After much discussions, members demanded that the panchayat coordinate with the police to take the tenant verification exercise to its logical conclusion in view of the rising number of criminal incidents involving migrants.
The polluted Diggabandh on the Sirlim-Chinchinim border was again highlighted at the gram sabha meeting. Member Wilson Viegas said the water body is polluted as result of dumping of animal and food waste.
During the discussions, it was pointed out that the previous panchayat body had in the past written to the FDA to get details of the chicken stalls and other small business establishments on their waste disposal facilities, suspecting that waste from these units was dumped into the water body.
The rumbler strips erected on the NH-17 at the accident-prone area also came up for discussion at the gram sabha. After some members demanded to know whether the strips conform to the laid-down specifications, it was decided that the panchayat would write to the authorities concerned to check the same.
