The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had successfully taken back the land allotted under SEZ illegally by the then Congress government and as such the allegations made by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar in this regard against the CM are baseless.
Addressing a press conference in the city, BJP MLA Glenn Ticlo informed that 38,40,886 square metres of land, which was allotted in April 2006 to seven companies for Rs 123 crore, has been taken back.
Ticlo refuted the allegations made by GPCC president Girish Chodankar that CM has given public money to these plot holders.
He informed that this land was allotted illegally without following proper procedures when Pratapsingh Rane was the Chief minister, Luizinho Faleiro the Industries Minister and Chandrakant Kavlekar Chairman of IDC
Praising the CM for taking the SEZ land back, Ticlo said that the amount was paid to the parties only after they agreed in the Supreme Court to give back the land on condition that they get back the money they have invested.
Accordingly, government paid the principal amount and the interest generated it, thus putting an end to the matter, Ticlo informed. “Because of the efforts of CM the matter came for hearing after seven years in the Supreme Court and issue is finally resolved,” he said.
“We are now free to use these plots for industries,” he added.
Ticlo demanded that the Congress politicians who allotted this land illegally should be prosecuted.
