Dabolim police have decided to write to the transport department to cancel the permits of taxi operators involved in a scuffle at Dabolim Airport late Monday evening.
Clashes had broken out between the yellow-black taxi operators affiliated to the United Taximen Union (UTU) and the Goa Miles taxi operators outside the airport.
Acting on a complaint by the Goa Miles taxi operators led by Manoj Tari, Dabolim police later registered offences against yellow-black taxi operators under Sections 143, 506, 341, 323 IPC, on charges of threatening an employee of Goa Miles counter at the airport and for allegedly assaulting a driver operating for the Goa Miles app service.
Determined to take stringent action against scuffles among taxi operators at the airport, Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, who is holding additional charge of Dabolim police, on Tuesday morning, informed reporters that police would ask the transport department to cancel the permits issued to those taxi operators involved in the case.
“Police will also issue summons to all the accused under Section 41A of CrPC and take necessary action as per law,” said Raposo.
Asked if he foresees further clashes among the taxi operators following the launch of the Goa Miles app on Monday, PI Raposo replied: “A strong police force is stationed at the airport and no one will be allowed to take law in their hands.”
Meanwhile, UTU members complained that the police action was to suppress the resentment against the taxi app and said their association would consult a lawyer and decide on the future course of action.
However, UTU President Sanjay Naik declined to comment in the matter, but informed that a meeting would be convened soon to take necessary steps.
