VASCO: Goencho Ramponkarancho Ekvott ( GRE) President Agnelo Rodrigues condemned permission for shacks and cottages while overlooking the requests for regularisation of houses of fishermen.
“I don’t understand how CRZ works. While houses of fishermen are yet to be regularised, we cannot even modify our houses if we don’t get CRZ permission. But the same CRZ authorities go all out to give permission to cottages and shacks at different locations. We GRE have decided that we don’t want any more shacks, cottages or anything else on our beaches because only fishermen and fishing community live here. We face problems and we don’t want their garbage, late night parties and nuisance to come into the village. This village is almost declared as a fishing zone,” said Rodrigues.
“These temporary structures then become permanent and then the owners drag the panchayat to courts if it objects. I go for a walk daily and these days the watchman at Hyatt are asking us fishermen why we are walking on the beach near their hotel. They don’t own the beach. The hotel staff trouble our women and family when they go to pull nets on the beach,” said Rodrigues.
