Velsao gram sabha says no to Pissodem-Dando road

Also, no to temporary huts and shacks on beach

VASCO

Velsao Pale Issorcim Panchayat gram sabha on Sunday rejected a proposal for a road connecting Pissodem to Dando. Villagers also rejected a proposal put up by Beach Front resort to have temporary huts and shacks on land having survey number 54/1-c citing that the owners already had CRZ approval for the same.

Villagers informed that the Pissodem to Dando road in question had already been opposed by late Matanhy Saldanha on the ground that a road was already existing.

They said that the panchayat had earlier granted permission for temporary shacks and structures to one company in the jurisdiction, but today the same place had a full-fledged hotel at the location.

They said the panchayat could do nothing about it and hence no more permission were to be given for any temporary structures anywhere in the village.

A resident Maximano D’Souza said that the road in question though rejected earlier was still reflecting in RP-21. “Villagers have taken a decision that they do not want the road because there is already a parallel one existing and it does not serve any purpose because there are no houses at all. The

proposal sent to RP-21 very clearly says we do not want the road so where is the question of it coming up again. The authorities have not paid heed to suggestions of the villagers at all as the road was already rejected in 2017 and a gram sabha resolution was adopted in this regard,” D’Souza recalled.
