PANAJI: The State Cabinet which met on Wednesday approved the transfer of 1.70 lakh square metres of land from the Health Department to the Department of Information Technology for the IT park at Chimbel.
With the decision, the transfer of the entire 4.54 lakh square metres of land has been transferred to the IT department for Chimbel IT park.
The draft IT policy has proposed setting up the IT park on an area of 4,54,025 sq mts atop the Kadamba plateau falling in the village panchayat of Chimbel.
In September 2015 2.80 lakh sq metres of land was transferred from the Health Department after receiving a government nod. The balance land of 1.70 lakh square metres was retained with the health department ostensibly for the purpose of setting up an AYUSH Hospital. With this decision, the entire land has been handed over to the IT department.
However, the government later move on with plans to set up an AYUSH hospital at Dhargalim in Pernem taluka.
"The idea was to have the IT park on the entire 4.54 lakh square metres. This is actually less for an IT Park but since Goa is a small state we will make do with what we have," Khaunte said while confirming that the cabinet had approved the resolution to transfer the land.
The government has two pending projects one at Tuem and another at Chimbel where they hope to bring in IT and electronic companies to set up shop in the state, however, the projects have been progressing at a slow pace.
