Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare all notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 invalid by Tuesday midnight, calling it a masterstroke and a move that checkmated those dealing at black money.
He also asked that people do not panic and that if they do not have black money, they have no reason to panic.
“It is a bold decision that can only be done by a man with a 56-inch chest. It is a benefit for the common man and the taxpayer and ultimately the nation,” Parsekar said.
“But for those who hoard money in suitcases, those politicians who were hoping to win elections with the power of money are checkmated,” Parsekar said, adding that with black money vanishing from the market, it will bring down inflation.
He urged people not to panic but admitted that for a few days there will be inconvenience.
“The state government will be helping out. Do not panic. Those who have nothing to hide will have nothing to lose,” Parsekar said.
