MARGAO
Political activity is set to pick up pace with the official launch of the new regional party on Monday, even as Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said people of Goa need not be scared about the birth of the new party, saying the new outfit will not compete with anybody, but will only provide an alternative to ensure a BJP-free Goa.
Allaying fears rai
sed in many quarters over the new party, Sardesai said “every election, Salcete have seen the birth of a new party. This is perhaps because of simmering discontentment against the rule by the High Command. This new party will have its high command in Goa and will decide what Goa wants. Nobody needs to be scared”.
Saying that as a politician he is also conscious of the fact that secular unity is required in the State, Sardesai said this is exactly the reason why he had proposed a grand alliance on the lines of Bihar with alliances being the flavour of the season. He, however, sought to blame the Congress leadership for ridiculing the Independents and making fun of them on the grand alliance. Continued from P1
“The Congress leadership questioned us as to who we were to propose a grand alliance when there was no entity in the State”, he said.
Underlining the need for a proper regional platform to unite self-respecting Goans against the BJP rule, Sardesai said the new regional party will offer a platform for every secular and progressive Goan against the BJP. “We are not in the race to become the Chief Minister. It is not we, but they who are dreaming of becoming the Chief Minister while doing nothing to prove their position from single digit to double digit figures”,
he added.
Sardesai said “nobody, whether it is the media or any political party, needs to be overcautious or go hyper about the birth of a new party. We will always assess our strengths. We will be a pragmatic party. We are here to provide an alternative and ensure a BJP-free Goa”.
