Heavy morning showers once again threw up questions on the preparedness of the city to face the monsoon as the rains inundated the Margao Municipal Council square, the old market area which houses the Camara de Salcete building and the old station road.
Less than a week after heavy showers exposed the civic body’s pre-monsoon works in the city, the authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council, were caught napping again as water logging on the streets was the order of the day. The municipal square right in front of the MMC building was the scene of water logging and inundation, throwing up questions whether the storm-water drains and cross
drainages have been cleared of blockages.
If rain water entered the commercial establishments and the chapel at the old market area last week, Tuesday morning was no different. Two hours of heavy rains flooded the entire area near the chapel and the Camara de Salcete building again raising questions over the efficacy of the pre-monsoon drive.
Last week too, the old market area, around the chapel, was inundated with water as a result of clogged drains. Water found its way inside shops and business establishments.
The story along the Margao station road was no different on Tuesday. If the road was flooded with water last week, the entire road was submerged under water in the morning. Shopkeepers in the area raised questions on the pre-monsoon works carried out by the municipal and district authorities and said they doubted whether a lasting solution to the flooding problem will really see light of the day.
The Rawanfond road too was also inundated with water due to clogged drains.
