The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) on Thursday extended the judicial custody of alleged history-sheeter Zenito Cardozo and seven others in connection with the attempted murder of activist Rama Kankonkar on September 18.

The custody has been extended by 14 days, till November 26, when the court will review the matter again. The JMFC has also directed the Panaji police to file a charge sheet by November 18.

Cardozo was among eight accused arrested for the attack. In his statement, Kankonkar identified only one assailant, Minguel, while the others remained unidentified until their arrest.

Kankonkar, who was discharged from the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) 23 days after the assault, later accused the police of compromising the probe.

Speaking to reporters thereafter, the activist alleged that his concerns about possible political involvement were ignored by the police during the recording of his statement.
