In a major breakthrough, Mapusa Police have successfully apprehended two suspects and detained two others who are minors, in connection with the daring burglary at Nasnodkar Jewellers in the Mapusa municipal market.
The accused were rounded up from Sindhudurg-Maharashtra, following swift police action and coordinated investigation efforts.
The burglary took place early Monday morning when a gang of thieves broke into the popular jewellery shop and made away with a significant haul of gold and silver ornaments.
Following the burglary, Goa Police launched an intensive investigation to track down the culprits.
A special team of officers was dispatched to Maharashtra after receiving intelligence that suggested the suspects had fled across state borders.
The investigation led the team to Sindhudurg, where they successfully located and netted the four individuals involved in the heist.
According to police sources, two of the four suspects arrested are minors.
The police are now in the process of escorting the accused back to Goa for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Mapusa Police have confirmed that further investigations are underway, with efforts focused on recovering the stolen jewellery and identifying any additional individuals who may have been involved in planning or executing the burglary.
The swift action by the Mapusa Police has been lauded by local residents and business owners, many of whom were alarmed by the audacity of the robbery.
The arrest of the four suspects marks a significant success for the police department, which had faced mounting pressure to solve the case given the high-profile nature of the crime.
Local shopkeepers in the Mapusa municipal market expressed relief at the arrests.
"This incident had all of us on edge, especially those of us running businesses here. We're grateful to the police for acting quickly and bringing those responsible to justice," said one shop owner who wished to remain anonymous.
