The Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Goa State Branch, in collaboration with Goa College of Pharmacy, Directorate of Food & Drug Administration, Goa Pharmaceuticals Manufacturer’s Association, Chemists and Druggists Association of Goa, and Goa State Pharmacy Council, celebrated World Pharmacists Day on 25th September at Goa College of Pharmacy, Panaji. The theme for this year was “Pharmacists: Meeting global health needs.”
World Pharmacists Day, observed annually on 25th September, honors pharmacists for their role in improving global health. Shweta Dessai, Director of the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration, was the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of focus and determination for budding pharmacists. Dr. Praveen Khullar, President of Goa Pharmaceutical Manufacturer’s Association and Executive Director at VerGo Pharma, delivered the keynote address as the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, President of IPA-Goa Branch and Principal of Goa College of Pharmacy, gave the welcome address. Faculty members of Goa College of Pharmacy were felicitated for their academic achievements, including Dr. Adison Fernandes, Dr. Liesl Maria Fernandes e Mendonca, Dr. Nutan Laxman Naik, Dr. Sachi Kudchadkar, and Dr. Rahul Chodankar, who successfully completed their Ph.D. in Pharmacy.
Dr. Anand Mahajan and Dr. Anant Bhandarkar received the Goa State Research Foundation Grant for organising a Summer School focused on Spectroscopic and Chromatographic techniques. Dr. Mythili Krishna J. was awarded a Grant-in-aid from the Department of Science and Technology for her three-year project on plants from the Apocyanaceae family used in traditional medicine. Dr. Damita Cota was also awarded the Goa State Research Foundation Research Start-up Grant for the year 2024-25.
Ph.D. research scholars Cleona Elizabeth Mary D’Cruz and Jaime Mary Mendonsa were honored with the Goa State Research Foundation Doctoral Research Fellowship for 2024-25.
Students Manjushri Raut and Muskan Sharma were recognised for their achievements in badminton, with Raut being named Best Badminton Player and Sharma securing the Runners-Up position at the Goa University Badminton Championship.
Lastly, Shweta Dessai was congratulated and felicitated for her recent appointment as Director of the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration.
