Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar on Saturday claimed that while job aspirants from rural areas may be weak in communication skills, they are hardworking, dedicated, honest and given a chance, they could be assets to companies.
Kavlekar was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Job Fair 2020 at the Quepem Sports Complex.
The Job Fair 2020 attracted about 1,500 aspirants, which included 1,000 from Quepem itself, and there were many in the age group of 35-40 years who were employees of some companies which
have shut down in recent times.
Speaking further, Kavlekar said his intention to hold the Job Fair 2020 in Quepem was to facilitate the educated backward class aspirants from South Goa to get job opportunities with 25 leading companies.
“I requested the managements of these companies to have some understanding and leniency towards the shortcomings and give these job seekers an opportunity to work for the company. With little experience, I believe they could be the essential workforce of these companies,” said Kavlekar.
Kavlekar said there are around 436 job opportunities in the 25 leading companies, other than labour class jobs, and was confident that that most aspirants would take full advantage of the Job Fair 2020.
“Sometimes, new aspirants leave jobs due to transport difficulties or night shift, but I assured to even walk that extra mile of providing transport to them.”
Vivek Marathe Chief Inspector of Factories & Boilers said the Job Fair 2020 was the most organised job fair he has seen in Goa and
considering the presence of the aspirants at the registration counter, he was confident that the Job Fair 2020 would be a huge success and that there would be many smiling faces and satisfied aspirants at the end of the day.
“The companies should provide training in safety, machinery operating or any other skill and within a year, these aspirants will achieve certain skills and will work to the satisfaction of companies,” said Marathe.
He further said people in rural areas should benefit from the jobs so that development and prosperity would reach in all parts of the State.
Marathe said after the Job Fair 2020, there would be a second phase of interviews within the next 15 days and he was hopeful that around 200 jobs would be bagged by aspirants from Quepem taluka.
One of such aspirant, Shobha, who has a work experience of 12 years at the management level, was standing in a queue for almost 3 hours with the hope of getting job placement at any level so that she could take care of her family.
