Newly appointed BJP Goa unit President Sadanand Shet Tanawade set his sights on winning the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections for the saffron party but admitted it will be a “challenge doing so in the absence of former chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar.
“ZP elections are to be held in March last week. Our party candidates have to be elected. Wining the 2022 assembly elections is also a challenge. We don’t have Parrikar with us. We have to take the party forward in his absence and this is the biggest challenge”, Tanawade said.
Held at the Maratha Samaj hall in Panaji, the convention of workers was addressed by the new BJP state unit president where he exhorted party workers to co-operate and work for the Party candidate to ensure the win.
Tanawade had also worked as party general secretary and has also served as secretary as well. He was elected a panch member of Tivim panchayat and had to face disqualification motion as he was underage to serve on the position of Sarpanch.
Tanawade also said that State BJP orgainisng secretary Satish Dhond had introduced him to the RSS in Panaji. He also recalled the help he got from colleagues Vishwas Satakar, Narendra Sawaikar, Datta Kholkar in the initial stages of his political career.
He assured workers that in the upcoming days a system will be put in place to have a monthly meeting of ministers with party workers to solve their grievances.
He appealed workers to take ahead the BJP party programme to support CAA with distributing door to door pamphlets.
Tanawade said that Mhadei and Mining are two big issues before government and BJP party will give all backing to the government on these issues to resolve these issues with the help of central government.
BJP national deputy president Avinash Rai Khanna, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and ministers like Babu Kavlekar, Manohar Azgaonkar, Mauvin Godhino were present on the occasion.
Damu Naik appealed BJP workers to approach people with central government important decisions like Ram Mandir, Article 370, triple talaq, CAA. He said opposition was raising the CAA issue just to save its existence which is in danger.
Outgoing BJP State unit president Vinay Tendulkar said he did his best for the party during his tenure.
He reiterated that some controversial decisions during his tenure such as to allow entry of 10 Congress MLAs and earlier, MGP and 2 Congress MLAs were taken through thorough discussion.
Thanking Shripad Naik, Manohar Parrikar, Satish Dhond for giving him support during his tenure, Tendulkar said, “I am not retired. I will continue to work for the party. We will get 30 MLA elected in the next elections”.
Pramod Sawant said that due to BJP’s uniqueness the first generation leaders like Manohar Parrikar, Laxmikant Parsekar and also second generation leaders like him got a chance to become chief Ministers. The credit for forming government with only 13 BJP MLAs goes to Manohar Parrikar, he said.
