K’taka’s clearance to Tamnar project crucial for Goa: Min

PANAJI

As the Karnataka government is yet to approve the  Goa-Tamnar Power project proposal, the State Power Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Tuesday expressed concern over the delay in supply of 1200 MW of electricity to Goa.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of an event, Dhavalikar said that the Tamnar power project is completed in Goa; however, there is a delay as far as the Karnataka side is concerned. “Unless the work in Karnataka is completed, we may not get 1200MW power supply,” he said.

The Karnataka government is yet to clear the Goa-Tamnar power project proposal. The government has also said that unless Goa grants its nod for the Kalsa Bhandura water project, Karnataka won’t approve the Tamnar project.

The Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Limited successfully charged their freshly laid line ‘400 kV & 220 kV’ between Xeldem and Mapusa last month. During the line-charging, high voltage electricity was supplied through these transmission lines.

Meanwhile, addressing National Energy Conservation Week 2024, Dhavalikar calling for collective efforts to imbibe energy-efficient practices. “Celebrating Energy Conservation Week should not be a mere ritual. It is time to reflect on whether we truly understand its significance. People must abandon careless behaviour towards natural resources and adopt a serious, judicious approach to their consumption,” he added.

The event was organised to raise awareness about energy conservation.

The celebration also recognized outstanding contributions to energy conservation with the Corporation of the City of Panaji and Curti Khandepar Village Panchayat conferred awards for excellence in energy conservation at the Municipality and Panchayat levels, respectively.
