K’taka tourists thrash Anjuna youth to death

MAPUSA
In a case of hooliganism by tourists from a neighbouring state, a 42-year-old local was severely thrashed by tourists travelling in a jeep bearing a Karnataka number plate resulting in the death of the local.

After committing the offence the tourists sped off from the site but were later detained at the border check post at Polem.

The deceased has been identified as Sagar Shripad Naik, who is a resident of Anjuna and was employed to collect pay-parking fees on the beachside.

The incident took place near the popular Anjuna beach area at around

noon time.

During the incident a large number of people were present on the spot but the tourists kept on beating the local, an eyewitness informed.

Soon after getting information, Anjuna Police rushed to the spot and sent an alert to all border check posts to track the vehicle.

According to police, the motive behind the crime was “sudden quarrel” between the local and the tourists.

The five male occupants of the Tata Sumo jeep were detained at the Polem border check post by the Canacona Police in the evening and later handed over to Anjuna Police.

“We need to interrogate the accused to fret out more details about the incident,” said Anjuna PI, Suraj Gawas.

A case of murder has been registered against the accused under section 302 r/w 34 of the IPC.

Recently, tourists are heading to Goa in large numbers after the Covid-19 restrictions have been relaxed.
