The management of Kala Academy has assured the Bombay High Court at Goa that no changes or demolition will be carried out at the heritage Kala Academy building and is instead preparing a repairing strategy by engaging experts from Tamil Nadu.
The assurance was submitted before the High Court in an affidavit after the High Court took up the potential demolition of the Kala Academy and constituted a suo motu writ petition.
Advocate General Devidas Pangam had earlier assured the court that no hasty decisions are proposed to be taken in the matter of demolition of the open air auditorium at KA, which is said to be in a precarious condition.
The government is now expected to submit its repair plans before the next hearing scheduled on January 27.
Activists have also raised fears that the structure designed by architect Charles Correa would be significantly altered ruining the place if the structure was partially demolished or altered significantly.
However, the High Court noted that in view of the assurances by the government “the immediate apprehension as regards any demolition does not survive.”
