KA repairs will be finalised after IIT-Madras audit: Task force chief

Says sound, lights problems need to be sorted out

MARGAO

Asserting that Kala Academy is the finest theatre in the entire country, Chairman of the Kala Academy Task Force Vijai Kenkre on Tuesday said that the Panel will finalise the repairs and renovation works on the Kala Academy once the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras conducts the structural audit.

Speaking to the media after the inspection of the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat with RB Chairman Rajendra Talak and PWD officials, Kenkre said, “The Task Force is hopeful that the work will be done and we will get the work done by sitting on their head”.

Incidentally, the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao has roped in Vijai Kenkre and his team as supervisory panel to supervise the ongoing repairs and renovation work on the Ravindra Bhavan.

“All over India, Goa is known for Kala Academy. The work should get ready and up to the mark. The sound and lights issues are not a small issue but the problems needs to be addressed as early as possible. It’s a good thing that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is supporting our efforts”, he said.

He added: “Work done on the KA is not proper, we can definitely say at this stage. When KA is known for its state-of-the-art sound, sound system is brought from outside”.

He said the problem with the Kala Academy started with the renovation work when changes were made to the catwalk area with an Ac duct.

"The A row was also removed. Is there any auditorium without the A row? When the panel was appointed we did not see definite person supervising the work. The government had appointed a contractor, but there was no one around to give instructions how to go about the work.

"Since there was no consultant, we had no control over the contractor. The KA is a public performance place. We will talk what we see. If there are any problems, the same needs to be addressed at the earliest”, he added.
