Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday questioned the trend of "politicising everything" while reacting to claims of involvement of one of his Cabinet ministers in the attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar.
Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that a detailed investigation is currently underway into the case and the police team will take the probe to its logical conclusion.
"Some people have a habit of politicising everything," Sawant said while responding to journalists who sought his response to the allegations of a minister's involvement.
At least two Opposition MLAs — Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Venzy Viegas and Congress's Carlos Alvares Ferreira — have publicly alleged that a Cabinet minister is behind the attack on Kankonkar.
Viegas made the charge in his address to a large crowd of participants in a candlelight march at Margao on Monday and repeated it in a televised interview to a local channel. Alvares Ferreira, on the other hand, made the allegation linking a minister to the incident in a podcast of a media organisation.
Both Viegas and Alvares, however, stopped short of naming who the minister was.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai demanded that those making the allegation should identify the minister. He said, although the allegation is against one unnamed minister, the aspersion is being cast on all the ministers, and the accusers should therefore name who it is.
