Stating that the Goa Engineering College at Farmagudi is rapidly becoming famous as an educational hub, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said he would welcome the IIT project at Farmagudi.
He was responding to opposition to the IIT project proposed at Codar, after the government had faced obstacles in setting up the IIT in the talukas of Canacona, Sattari, Sanguem and Dharbandora.
“There is an area of five lakh square metres at Farmagudi, and it is possible to set up a vertical IIT project there. If additional space is needed in the long run, the same can be made available,” said Dhavalikar.
“Necessary facilities for an educational hub have been created at Farmagudi. When former chief minister, the late Manohar Parrikar, decided to bring this project to Goa, I had suggested Farmagudi as the site to him.”
“Arrangements were also made at the primary level to set up the project there,” said Davalikar.
Commenting on public opposition to the IIT project at Codar, Dhavalikar stated that if there are really plantations belonging to the people and if there are chances that those plantations could get destroyed, the government would definitely not set up the project there.
“But this decision is entirely up to the government,” the minister said.
