Ponda police on Saturday arrested Omkar Kavlekar (28) of Kavlem-Bandora on charges of assaulting a woman who had allegedly refused his offer of a lift at Kapileshwari-Ponda.
PI Mohan Gaude said the accused was arrested under Sections 354 and 323 IPC and was sent to three days in custody after being produced in court.
Meanwhile, around 50 Kavlem locals staged a protest march to the Ponda police station demanding strict action against the accused.
Local panch Draupada Naik demanded justice for the victim who has still not recovered from the incident.
