The Congress on Sunday said it was hurt to see that Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar was not given a place on the dais at the civic reception held in honour of President Ram Nath Kovind on June 7.
“Kavlekar occupies a constitutional position, so it was an insult that he was relegated to a place in the audience,” Congress spokesperson Sankalp Amonkar said.
Amonkar recalled that when Chief Minsiter Manohar Parrikar was Leader of the Opposition, the Congress had shown him courtesy and followed protocol on all such occasions.
“There should be respect for the position, no matter who occupies it,” said Amonkar, adding that the Government’s mindset does not bode well for democracy.
