Kejriwal likely to file fresh plea to quash summon

PANAJI

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to file a fresh plea before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday seeking to quash a police notice that directed him to appear for questioning on April 27 in connection with a case for alleged defacement of public property in the run-up to the Assembly elections in 2022.

On Tuesday, the single bench cited some technical issues as it did not hear the petition. As such, the AAP founder is likely to approach the division bench with a fresh petition on Wednesday, stating he is nowhere named in the FIR and that the Court should quash it.

Earlier, Kejriwal had said he will “definitely” go and join the investigation.

The Goa Police issued him a notice this month directing him to join the probe.

The notice under section 41 (A) of CrPC, stated that during the investigation of a First Information Report registered under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 (penalty for defacement of property) of the Goa Prevention of Defacement of Property (GPDP) Act, lodged at Pernem police station in Goa, it was found that “there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you, in relation to the present investigation”.

“Hence you are directed to appear before me on April 27 at 11 am at Pernem police station."
