The Keri panchayat tried to make arrangements for drinking water but aggrieved locals claimed the efforts were not enough.
They are fears that this water shortage could go on for a longer duration as repairs are expected to be completed only by next week.
When contacted, a PWD official said that it was necessary for the WRD to have given a notice before taking up repairs on the irrigation canals.
“Due to the sudden and unexpected repair, water is not being supplied to the water treatment plant. Alternate arrangement could have been considered if officials of WRD had given us advance notice about their repair work,” said a PWD official.
Keri Sarpanch Diksha Gawas said the WRD should have notified the panchayat and the PWD before stopping water from the dam.
“Negligence of WRD authorities has led to a scarcity in drinking water,” said Gawas.
