Lightning at the Holy Spirit Church, Margao on Tuesday evening had done extensive damaged to the bell tower and to the electronic gadgets, besides the power generating set.
The impact of the lightning was so intense that pieces of the stone atop the bell towers came crashed down on the adjoining Parochial house, flooding the office premises. Pieces of the stone also landed on the aluminium sheets at the entrance to the Church.
Lucio Menezes told The Goan that that lightning had hit the Church bell tower exactly at 6.20 pm on Tuesday.
“The bell tower column was hit by the lightning. The impact was so huge that the shredded pieces landed on the parochial house and the aluminium sheets. The roof tiles were damaged as a result of which rain water entered the office”, he said.
Menezes pointed out that the lightning has destroyed electronic gadgets such as CCTV, the DVR, besides sound amplifiers, mixer and stabilizers. All these items have been destroyed in the lighning”, he said, adding that the power generating set has been destroyed by the impact of the lightning.
