CURCHOREM
No official panels are floated by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and former MLA Subhash Phaldessai.
Uguem, Vadem-Curdi, Neturlim and Bhati Panchayats are some important panchayats in Sanguem constituency which could play a vital role in the panchayat election.
In Bhati, 21 candidates are contesting from seven wards, and some wards will witness straight fight, while in Vadem-Curdi, 25 candidates are contesting from seven wards.
In Bhati and Vadem-Curdi villages, the major issue is the Selaulim dam water supply. Since decades, as water is supplied to other parts of South Goa, they have no water to drink from the Selaulim dam.
The farmers are not taking interest in agricultural activities despite having ample land because there is no water for irrigation purposes. Ironically, water is supplied by water tankers in the summer season.
In Neturlim, not much development is seen. Though the village has ample scope for hinterland and eco-tourism, but plans and proposed projects are in pipeline.
A total of 14 candidates are contesting from six wards. Rajani Gaonkar was elected unopposed from Ward 5. There is majority of ST community population in the panchayat.
Another important panchayat is Uguem, where 27 candidates are contesting from seven wards.
When contacted, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and former MLA Subhash Phaldessai said that their candidates will win in the panchayat election.
