As two peons and a supervisor have retired from service and there is no typist at the PWD office, an officer at the PWD office has to perform their duties.
Mayekar said the PWD office does not have workers to clean the nullahs and clear mud that has accumulated on the roads. There is also delay in repairing potholes.
“The PWD officer at Pernem had written to the government requesting to employ staff at the office, but no action has been taken. The other officials at the PWD office are under stress as there is no staff to complete the public works in time,” he added. PWD (roads division) officer Pranshankar Mahajan said he has to do the work of transferring files from one table to the other in absence of a peon and there is also delay in correspondence as there is no typist.
“We have to go in Pernem, Mapusa and Panaji courts to attend various cases. We also receive many applications through the RTI Act and the officer has to give information within the time period,” he added.
