Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for a joint meeting on Friday to sort out the issues relating to taxi operators and GoaMiles even as the meeting held on Tuesday remained inconclusive.
“I have listed all the problems of taxi operators. Their contention is that if more than 30,000 taxi operators register with GoaMiles they will not get any business”, Sawant said after the meeting.
The chief minister, however, said there are no moves to stop the GoaMiles app and that it will continue till a final decision is taken on the issue.
Tourist taxi drivers have been opposing GoaMiles, backed by Goa Tourism Corporation, and have been demanding that it be scrapped.
Upping their ante, the taxi operators made a demand to scrap the app-based service.
“We have told Chief Minister clearly that GoaMiles should be scrapped. The government has time till Friday to take decision on scarping
GoaMiles. After Friday, will decide our next step”, said Chetan Kamat president of All Goa Taxi Owners Association.
Waste Management minister Michael Lobo, who attended the meeting on Tuesday and acted as a mediator between the two groups, said tourist taxi operators should ensure transparency in fares as there were complaints from tourists of overcharging.
“CM told taxi operators about the complaints of overcharging. There should be transparency in the amount charged by tourist taxi operators”, Lobo said.
