Apparently finding the imposing South district Collectorate and the District Collector Swapnil Naik “good”, Revenue Minister, Rohan Khaunte is now pining hopes on what he called a “vibrant” team manning the South district Collectorate to deliver on government’s e-district module and Digital lockers concept down to the common man of South Goa.
He also termed the mahiti ghars as “vulture dens”, saying either these ghars should stop functioning or the ideas of the government need to be put in place in these ghars.
Making a visit to the district Collectorate, South on Wednesday noon, Khaunte went round the Collectorate, only to find the officers and employees in place and less queues compared to revenue offices in other talukas.
Khaunte’s visit, however, had more to do with the task of understanding the infrastructure and amenities available at the South Collectorate ahead of the government’s plan to launch e-district and digital lockers in mid-April.
“The team is quite vibrant in South Goa. The place is good and the district Collector is also good. But we have to ensure that a lot of things happen so that the reforms start at the level of the Collector and move downwards to benefit the common man”, Khaunte told the media after taking a round of the Collectorate with district Collector Swapnil Nail, Addl Collector, Johnson Fernandes and other officials.
Disclosing plans to make a number of services Adhaar-based, the Revenue Minister, however, underlined the need for Digital lockers, right at the village level so that information of an individual, including thumb prints are stored digitally.
“We have tied-up with a IT based company for this job to go to the villages before embarking on the digital locker concept”, he said, adding that the entire focus is to improve the services to the common man. Khaunte also had a look at the availability of space in the Collectorate building in the event the government goes for the implementation of the time bound services.
