Salvador-do-Mundo Panchayat Ghar complex

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte held interactions with the contractor on the status of the Panchayat Ghar cum sports complex project at Salvador-do-Mundo, which is being built on 3,864 square metres of land in the village.
Though the foundation stone for the Rs 22.98 crore project was laid on February 25, 2014, work actually began in August 2015 and is expected to be completed by January 1, 2017.
The project comprises an office building for the Salvador-do-Mundo Panchayat and sports facilities like a football ground, badminton courts, gym, multipurpose hall, veterinary clinic, post office and shops.
After discussing the matter with the contractor, MLA Khaunte said the project work was moving at a very slow pace due to financial constraints. He advised the contractor to complete the work of the office building urgently, as it becomes very difficult for the panchayat to work in the existing area, which is hardly 80 sq mtrs.
“There is no sufficient place for the panchayat staff to sit or keep their records. Since the roof tiles of the existing panchayat ghar are broken, water seeps in the panchayat office during rainy season,” said Khaunte.
“There is no proper toilet facility for the staff. However, once this project is completed, all the facilities will be available under one roof for the residents of Salai,” assured Khaunte.
