PORVORIM
Tourism Minister & Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte retained control over two panchayats but lost control of one in his constituency.
In the Penha de Franca panchayat, nine members of his panel got elected and later two newly-elected panchas -- Shantaram Naik (Ward 1) and Matilda Martins (Ward 4) -- extended their support to Khaunte.
In Socorro, eight members of Khaunte’s panel won and Rajaram Shetgaonkar (Ward 3) declared his support to the minister.
There was a setback for Khaunte in Salvador do Mundo. While two candidates from his panel -- Sandeep Salgaonkar and Reena Fernandes -- got elected unopposed, only one from his panel, Vijay Dalvi, managed to win from the remaining seven.
The six candidates who were elected were Rajesh Savoikar, his wife, Roshni, Namrat Chodankar, Bindiya Naik, Jagannath Chodankar and Dattaram Redkar.
Later, these six candidates called on the residence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at Panaji where they were felicitated on their victory.
There was mixed success for families in the Porvorim constituency.
A couple, Anurag and Shalu Gupta, who contested from Penha de Franca were both defeated while another couple, Rajesh and Roshni Savoikar, who contested from Salvador do Mundo won the election. Two brothers, Shantarm and Ganashyam Naik, who contested from Penha de Franca also won.
