MAPUSA: Police recovered a sword and a knife which was allegedly used in the brutal murder of hotelier, Vishwajeet Singh, in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Calangute Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi informed that after intense interrogation, the prime accused, Umesh Lamani, disclosed that the sole motive for the ghastly act was due to the bike stealing case filed by the victim against him.
“While conducting an elaborate investigation, the two accused informed the location where the weapons were hidden after committing the crime,” PI Dalvi said.
Sources informed that the weapons were dumped at a spot in Candolim village. Police later visited the spot and recovered the sword and the knife.
Further, police also recovered the scooter used by the accused to flee from the scene of offence.
It may be recalled that hotelier Vishwajeet Singh was stabbed to death in the parking lot of his apartment building in Bamon-vaddo, Candolim.
The two accused, Umesh Rathod Lamani (24) of Gadag-Karnataka and Dayashankar Sahu (23) of Madhya Pradesh escaped to Gadag after committing the crime.
Timely intervention by Goa Police who relayed information to their counterparts in Gadag managed to net both the accused.
Mapusa Police went to Gadag and brought both the accused to Goa on Wednesday and handed them over to Calangute Police.
A Mapusa court remanded both the accused to eight days police custody. Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi is conducting further investigation.
