The Congress on Wednesday appointed Rajendra V Korgaonkar as convenor of Calangute Block Congress Committee, but the appointment has not gone down well with a section of diehard Congress supporters.

Korgaonkar was appointed the convenor by North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike in the presence of former two-time MLA of Calangute and GPCC General Secretary Agnelo Fernandes, former Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and former Parra sarpanch Benedict D’Souza.

“Goa Pradesh Congress Committee is pleased to appoint Rajendra Vasant Korgaonkar as convenor of Calangute Block Congress Committee with immediate effect,” said an order signed by Bhike.

The appointment of Korgaonkar, however, has not gone down well with a section of the Congress workers.

Taken by surprise with the appointment, former All Goa Mahila President Clotilda Braganza said hardworking congress workers were ignored and not taken into confidence.

“Congress does not want genuine people. They do not recognize people who have put in hard work. At least they should have taken suggestions from us,” Clotilda said.

A sympathizer of Congress, Premanand Divkar, said the Congress had failed to even form booth committees in Calangute.

“I don’t understand the policies of Congress. When it matters the most, the real Congress worker is overlooked,” said Divkar, who is the President of Calangute Constituency Forum.

The North Goa District Congress Committee chief said that the convenor has been appointed for a specific job.

“The convenor’s role is to enrol Congress members and later elect the local block committee. Once members are enrolled, the Calangute Congress Block Committee will be elected,” Bhike said.
