Geno First Division Football League will kick off on January 26, with 14 clubs in competition across 91 games over two months. Goa Football Association has altered the format of the annual First Division event to be now played on single-leg basis.
AA de Moira, Salgaocar FC Jrs, Curtorim Gymkhana, St Savio SC, YC Manora, Velsao SCC, Cuncolim Union, Goa Velha SC, Dempo Jrs, UC Telaulim, Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao, Sesa FA, Goa Police and Holy Cross SC are the teams competing in
the league.
GFA President, Elvis Gomes hailed the support from Geno Pharmaceuticals and stressed that sponsorship is the key ingredient to the organisation of a league. He also revealed that the association wants the government to consider giving grants to the GFA-affiliated football clubs.
In his address, Geno CMD Dilip Salgaocar assured GFA of a long-term association for the betterment of football in the State.
Sesa FA's Spanish head coach, Eduard Battle Basart, who was the keynote speaker at the league launch programme, advised the players to put their heart and soul in football and dream of moving anywhere in the world, through the talent
they have.
